I believe that this text says many things to us today. This speech was one of or perhaps the most famous and most inspiring speech in history. Meaning that if it didn’t say anything to us today we would be a very lame race. This speech focuses on et…

I believe that this text still has some relevance to today's society. Although racism has certainly decreased compared to the times in which the issue of racism was a very strong one. I also see that the main points of this text relate to other idea…

Mice & Men Blog Post 2

What’s the difference between reading of Mice and Men and watching the film?

This does sound like a very obvious question because the obvious answer is that one is visual and one is mental. However there are also some underlying subtle differences that answer this question is all about.

Firstly there are a couple of different scenes of which the film doesn’t exactly follow the book; most notable the ending in which George kills Lennie, and the scene in which Lennie, Candy and Curly’s wife are… Continue

Reading the film vs. watching it

I personally prefer to watch films; because they are shorter and action packed. While I like reading, it just takes up a lot of time. I find books give you a lot more explanations and give you the chance, imagine the characters and places as you wish or want them to be. But in watching a film, Characters and places are given to you and you cannot imagine them as you wished you could. Films are the lazy way out but are not always the best. 4) Which is more valuable: Steinbeck’s book or Sinise’s film?

This is a very hard question to answer, because it is all personal opinion. My personal opinion is that although It may take much more effort to read the book then watch the film the book does is more valuable. This is because although the film does pretty much follow the book, adding in scenes, the book provides a much more personal and detailed approached. What can be two pages of description which would take a few minutes to read… Continue

Daft for CAT semester 2 - Eliot Osborne

Part A of Semester 2, Assessment 1

This section of the Assessment requires me to choose two scenes in which one was done badly and one done well. Although many of the scenes would be very interesting to discuss, I do think that there are two scenes that stand out to me.
The well done scene would have to be the balcony scene between Romeo and Juliet. This scene to me captures and expresses what Shakespeare really wants to convey in this scene. I couldn’t think of any way to make this scene bette… Continue

Have a look at chapter 14 of the textbook and see what it says about satire. I'd be interested to hear if you find it useful.
