I totally and utterly, wholey and fully agree with this! Another reason though could be because we have to... or maybe we are great English students who are willing to explore the depths of the language that we call our own!

I think that Mitch raises a valid point of the actors portraying extreme emotions, when they succeed or fail in there dreams. I think that the quotes Will presented on the other discussion also help to portray the message. Utimatey though, the way i…

Like the other two, I dream of becoming a professional footballer. This means we all share the same dreams and so this text means even more to all of us because the themes explored and the way these messages are conveyed are relevant to us and the d…

I think that through the context of football, this message of chasing your dreams is easily conveyed and understood. Football is the most played and watched sport in the world so many millions of people can understand what Santiago is going through.…

The ideas explored in Goal are completely relevant today in this modern context. All the themes that are used in this modern context are relevant because they have been created for a modern audience. All the themes are understood becuase of this. It…

I think that both have the purpose to encourage but Goal explores this idea further and continues with Goal 2 and 3. In Of Mice and Men, the texts encouragement is lightly different in theme, focusing more on making a life for yourself where in Goal…

Good call, but think that both shows different themes better than the other. I think that Of Mice and Men expresses companionship better than Goal, but the determination in Goal is seen throughout, where in Of Mice and Men only when they are talking…

CAT

I am quite confident in my movie idea but have no idea about how I am going to propose the thought. I would prefer if the CAT was about writing the story not proposing the story, because I have some developed thoughts about the movie. I am finding it hard to work out a structure for my proposal because I had already thought of the movie idea before I had another look at the CAT question. I need to think about the setting, characters and how to write my proposal because I have thought of the plot… Continue

Unit Goal 5 - Have Steinbeck's book and Sinise's film become dated

Watching the end of the movie changed my thinking about whether the movie also was not dated. In my earlier blog posts I explained that the book was not dated and the movie was. They way in which Sinise changed the ending and put it into modern context while staying true to the novel was simply superb and made me think whether or not the movie is dated. I think that to some people the movie has become dated simply because we hav… Continue

Unit Goal 5 - Have Steinbeck's book and Sinise's film become dated

I continued my thinking after publishing my post so decided to keep writing.

Going on from my last point, I believe that these are two different questions. The question should be have Steinbeck's book OR Sinise's film become dated. I think that the way Steinbeck captured the spirit of the Americans by using an example that would have been a common trend for some Americans. The movie however has been changed to satisfy the needs… Continue

Unit Goal 5 - Have Steinbeck's book and Sinise's film become dated

I think that this question can be answered in two ways. Yes and No. Yes in the sense that the books are mainly based around the American depression which ended years ago. No in the sense that there will always be a crisis like the American depression in the world, for example the recent world wide recession.

You could however say that if people are still reading the book and watching the film that no they haven't become dated.… Continue

The Unit 6 Plan

I have noticed that there is no information about the exam in the unit plan, or the CAT. I have also noticed that most of the unit is about the comparison of books to films. I wondered why this is. I also wondered why no information about the CAT or Exam are in the plan. What motivates me most about this unit is the comparative component. Seeing the differences that directors have to make to the story-line is an intriguing an interesting process which I love to study. What concerns me is amount… Continue
